Get set to admire the enthralling beauty of Nepal’s largest body of water in remote Karnali region of western Himalaya at 3000m. The trail follows an exotic route via lush forest and several rivulets. Meanwhile, you will get to explore village and local people as the trail goes through several villages as well. Rara Lake is a well kept secret of Karnali where you get dissolved in the beauty of shimmering lake and highland panorama.  Nestled at high altitude, you can enjoy the spectacular lake ringed by Rara National Park with juniper, pine, and spruce and overshadowed by high ridge of middle hill to south and enchanting snow-capped mountain to the north. This pristine blue water-lake is the home to 174 spices of brilliant-colored flowers, 51 species of mammals and 214 spices of birds. Rara Lake has been successful in maintaining its glory as it preserves highland rare wildlife including black bear, Himalayan Thar, musk deer and wild boar. Rara National Park is designated as National park in 1976.

The trek to Rara Lake instigates after a scenic flight to Jumla (1+ hour from Kathmandu). The trail goes through off the beaten track along the mountain path and some remote village that affords the stunning glimpse of culture very different from rest of Nepal. The rain fall is low in summer and is ideal for trekking on Rara. Basically, the highland ridges are covered with in winter. In autumn, the trail compliments trekkers with plethora of alpine wild flowers over Rara lake making it best season for trek.  Moreover, the sudden change in scenery view is startling and outstanding. Rara is the biggest and deepest fresh water repository of Nepal that covers around 6.1 sq miles including nearby wetland area. The fertile land of the region is famous for growing medicinal flora.
