Upper Dolpo Trek is an exceptionally rewarding trek that takes you to the remote region of Nepal instead of following the classical route of Dolpo circuit. Dolpo region is nestled between the Tibetan plateau and Dhaulagiri range. The inhabitants of Dolpo region are mainly Tibetan and follow Buddhist culture. Therefore, the region is blessed with ancient and rich Tibetan culture, heritage and arts. The door to this exotic region was closed for foreigner until 1989 when the southern slope was opened for certain organized trekking group. The majority of trail meanders through off the beaten track and wanders on the challenging trail to Phoksundo along with the great Himalayan trail. This region is truly blessed with abundant wildlife including Musk Deer, Himalayan Blue Sheep and Snow leopard, that what makes it eco-trekking destination. Moreover, the trail is dominated by beautiful view of Dhaulagiri ranges.
Upper Dolpo is also regarded as the last closed society of Tibetan culture that is truly influenced by ancient Buddhist religion. Upper Dolpo trekking trail mostly encounters vast and rugged terrain; inhabited by unique tribes who lives in some of highest points of earth. Our 28 days trekking to Dolpo crosses few High Himalayan passes and experiences the magnificent and tranquil azure beauty of Phoksundo Lake. The trail follows the ancient Trans Himalayan trade route and trace back to Jhuphal where our trek ends. Moreover, the trail fascinates you with wilderness experience of west Nepal.
David Snelgrove is the first person to write about Upper Doplo region in his famous book titled “Himalayan Pilgrimmage” and recently by Peter Matthiessen in “The Snow Leopard”. “The Caravan” was huge success and was nominated for Oscar in best foreign language category.
